Deskmate began in a coffee shop close to Liverpool Street back in 2017. JP (founder) was looking for an affordable way to stand up whilst working after suffering a back injury and being freelance, didn’t have the budget for an expensive standing desk. The idea for Deskmate was born.
The business started with a single standing unit made of ee-flute (extra strong cardboard). The founding team found a factory, had 100 made and hustled a pop up store at a local WeWork to test the product out with startups and freelancers. The first morning, they sold out.
Since then, Deskmate has grown into a home office furniture brand that is built on three pillars: sustainability, quality and affordability. Where possible, Deskmate build and manufacture in the UK, using only locally sourced labour and production techniques. All of our design and production facilities pay fair wages to employees, the materials are sourced sustainably from Europe and our the plywood FSA approved. Our fulfilment centres are located close to production, to minimise travel time. As of January 2022, £1 of every sale goes to to planting a tree via one tree planted.
The end result? High quality, long lasting products that are built to last.
